After making the prototype and creating the form and shapes to be cut out, I created the template of the shapes I want to be cut out on the laser cutter on Illustrator.
The base of the light is the first shape shown below. The series of curves resembles the doppler effect.
I am using MDF as my material to be lasercut. I also want to experiment with how I can have two types of materials so I experimented using material which could be wrapped around the MDF.

Development of Laser Cut Model
For the actual light to be cut I had to find a different way of creating the essence of the water and fluidity as cutting strips of card would not be a good way to use the laser cutter as well as plastic that can be bent can't be cut. I also decided to take more aspects from the site apart from the feeling of the site. Since there were a lot of curved arc platforms on the water feature and semi circle seating areas which added to the fluidity I decided to take these shapes and layer them for the same effect of getting a wave.
Before lasercutting and making the templates to be laser cut on Illustrator I tried to make a prototype with foamboard as it was the only material which was slightly easier to cut but had approximately the same thickness.
I want there to be a flexibility and movement to the light. In terms of material, I couldn't find a material suitable for this which could be cut by the laser cutter so instead, I want to use wood and have the pieces of wood connected with thin transparent elastics which can give the form flexibility and movement. In my prototype I used rubber bands to test this out.

Desktop Crit
For the laser cutting task we have to make a lamp next to the bed that we can wake up next to. So i took the aspects from my site which attracted me to it and I wanted to portray this in my lamp to get the same feeling of tranquility even if I wasn't waking up in the site.
So i wanted to give the essence of fluidity and water through the lighting to create shadows which resembled ripples on the water.
It was a model just made form strips of thin cardboard.
Waking Up - Workshop 1
First workshop - Lasercutting
My site of where i would want to wake up the most is in the city in the park and water feature next to Vector Arena. These are photos around the area of where I want to wake up.
I walked around the city and I was looking for a place which would give me a sense of tranquility and calmness which is something I want when I wake up. I am attracted to the water feature in this park especially and the fluid and curved lines around it which makes everything seem smooth and calm. In a city dominated by built environment, it was nice to find a contrasting place filled with nature.
